About MahjongFun

MahjongFun is a website dedicated to mahjong games and other mind games. We provide our own well-known Mahjongg Solitaire game that has been around since 2002, a few hand-picked mahjong games developed by others, and a collection of mind games that we developed ourselves (e.g. FreeCell, Backgammon, Same Game, Tris).

You can also find a lot of information about Mahjong on our website, including its history, rules, strategy tips, and more.

Site history

MahjongFun used to be known as mah-jongg.ch, a website founded by Thomas Weibel in 2002. Initially the website only had a mahjong solitaire game. The idea for this game came from the www.the5k.org competition held between 2000 and 2002, the objective of which it was to encourage lean, efficient, functional, original and aesthetic web programming. A less than 5kb version of Mahjongg Solitaire took part in the 2002 contest.

Over time, other mind games such as FreeCell, Backgammon, Reversi and Sudoku were added. In 2023, Tomas Mertens became the new owner of mah-jongg.ch, and the name of the website was changed to MahjongFun. But the games stayed the same!
